In her native Jamaica, Cheryl found an unparalleled depth of self-expression in music that propelled her into becoming an avid singer and prolific songwriter. Always a non-traditionalist, Cheryl defies categorization. In solo performance, Cheryl sings a little of this and a little of that; from Jazz to R&B Classics, with Inspirational, Caribbean Rhythms and Folk Tunes. Cheryl’s musical arrangements employ an eclectic fusion of genres with heavy Jazz influence throughout.
Her goal? Delighting the senses… with music!
“A Taste of Jazz”, Cheryl’s debut solo (EP) recording of Cheryl-stamped Jazz standards, elicited tremendous response. Her follow-up album, “Cheryl …in Hymns” also received much acclaim. This latter release is an exciting collective of hymnal favorites tastefully revamped in contemporary Reggae and Jazz stylings. Cheryl also authored compositions that were published on compilation albums: Always by New Creation (1990) and In the Beginning …Jesus by Eagles Christian Theatre Troupe (1996).
Hailed as a musician ahead of her time, Cheryl co-founded two ground-breaking artistic teams that tour internationally and with whom she still performs occasionally, and which themselves have earned numerous awards. Cheryl filled the roles of Vocalist, Songwriter, Music Director and Recording co-Producer with both groups.
Cheryl enjoys doing solo cabaret performances and is a recurring act at annual formal events. Now based in the USA in New York state’s Lower Hudson Valley, her solo resume also includes the Summer Concert Series with ABCs of Jazz, Lasdon Park, New York, USA, headlines at BeanRunner Jazz Cafe, New York, and the JFK Holiday Inn, Queens, New York. Cheryl’s hauntingly clear voice and winsome smile at once charm and delight her audiences, drawing them into her private musical reverie, eventually releasing them refreshed and inspired.
